Traffic Advisory – Polk St & W 13th Ave - 2nd Update

Eugene, Ore. – 2nd UPDATE: The incident prompted a Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation activation. During an investigation, Blake Oren Bates, age 36, of Eugene, was found to have been driving an Audi A3 and failed to obey a traffic device (red light) at Polk Street and W. 13th Avenue, colliding with a Subaru Forrester.

 

 A utility pole was sheared off its base during the collision. A passenger in the Subaru was transported to an area hospital with injuries and then later released. The driver of the Subaru was admitted for serious, but not life threatening injuries. After the crash, Bates left the scene on foot but was contacted by officers a short distance away and then transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

 

Charges in the case are pending. Case 22-08542

 

Editor’s note: Court records show Bates was issued a DUII on 12/25/2010 in Lane County. It was dismissed after diversion on 08/29/2012.

 

 

Eugene, Ore. – 1st UPDATE: The roadway is partially opened and traffic can get through the intersection. Motorists should continue to use caution as crews complete the repairs to an electrical pole damaged during the collision.

 

 

The Eugene Police Department is advising motorists to avoid the area of Polk St & W 13th Ave due to a traffic collision.  Motorists should avoid the area until further notice as the closure is expected to last for an extended period.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes of travel and avoid the area.
