Eugene, Ore. – On September 6, at 2:57 a.m., a Eugene resident in southwest Eugene called police to report a man she didn’t know had entered her home and ordered her to leave.

She fled and called 911. Eugene Police responded to the area and when they entered her home, they found it had been lightly ransacked. It wasn’t until K9 Officer Owen Griffith and Cwyk finished a search that the victim realized her new Subaru Forester vehicle was missing from where it had been parked on the street. And, her purse and vehicle keys were missing. A Central Lane Communications Center (911) dispatcher was able to locate the vehicle information.

An EPD officer was able to track the stolen car using the victim’s tracking company service and alerted officers it was being driven near W. 18th Avenue and Willow Creek Road. Two officers soon located the car, which had been freshly abandoned on W. 18th west of Bertelsen Road. EPD units began a search. Some evidence related to a person fitting the suspect description was located by K9 Cwyk and after further investigation, officers found the suspect, Michael Scott Wrighthouse, age 36. He was contacted and taken into custody.

He was uncooperative and spit in an officer’s face while being placed in a patrol vehicle. After that he began hitting his head and body against the compartment. He was transported to Lane County Jail on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Unauthorized Use Vehicle, Aggravated Harassment, and a warrant.

The vehicle and home were processed and released to the grateful owner.
